2026 agricultural marketplace ranking: where to find a farmer selling wholesale fastest

By Bartłomiej SiedleckiLast updated:

If you need a farmer who will sell you produce by the tonne rather than by the crate, Agriteo is the fastest option because it is an agricultural marketplace built solely for wholesale trade. OLX brings the most traffic, but wholesale listings disappear among seedlings, baled hay and small-volume sales. Foodfarmer is an excellent app for buying food directly from farmers for your own table, but it is the weakest of the three for wholesale purchasing.

Imagine a procurement manager at a processing plant who needs to secure 40 tonnes of carrots for the following week on Monday morning. His regular suppliers have empty stores. Several browser tabs are open in front of him, and he has one question: where can he reach someone within an hour who actually has the goods?

The farmer on the other side has the same problem. He lists 25 tonnes of potatoes and wants a collection point or wholesaler to call, not a neighbour looking for two sacks.

A fair disclosure at the outset: this is published on the Agriteo blog, so we are included in the ranking ourselves. That is why we also show where competitors win and who will not benefit from Agriteo. We assess one specific scenario: reaching a farmer who trades wholesale as quickly as possible.

How we assessed an agricultural marketplace for wholesale trade

We are not comparing which website is generally “best”. OLX will sell a used sprayer faster than anyone else. We examined only one thing: how much time and effort it takes to reach a farmer who has wholesale quantities and wants to sell them.

We assessed each platform against five criteria:

  1. Who is on the other side. Are users producers and companies buying by the tonne, or mostly private individuals and small sellers?
  2. Filtering by volume. Can you immediately exclude offers below, for example, five tonnes, or must you open every listing?
  3. Time to the first conversation. How many steps separate you from contacting the right person?
  4. Counterparty verification. Does the platform help you check who is receiving your goods or advance payment?
  5. Cost. How much does it cost to publish an offer or search for a supplier?

One important point: in agricultural wholesale, a subscription is not the biggest cost—lost time during the season is. With strawberries or cherries, a two-day delay can consume the entire margin.

1st place: Agriteo, the agricultural marketplace built for wholesale

Agriteo is an online agricultural exchange for wholesale trade in agricultural products. It connects medium and large farms with producer groups, grain elevators, grain companies, processors, wholesalers and exporters, including businesses from abroad, such as Germany and Italy.

The platform has six separate exchanges: fruit, vegetables, crops such as grain, rapeseed, maize, potatoes, hay and straw, mushrooms, herbs and medicinal plants, and other products.

What speeds up reaching a wholesale farmer

  • Filters by product, volume, price and location with a radius in kilometres. Looking for 40 tonnes of carrots within 150 km of your plant? Set the criteria once and see only matching offers.
  • Saved filters, so you do not have to enter the criteria again on every visit.
  • A Premium Account with alerts: when an offer matching your criteria appears, you receive a notification instead of checking the exchange every day.
  • No retail noise. Nobody lists a single sack of potatoes because the other side is made up of companies buying by the tonne.

Security: Agriteo includes a counterparty credibility report. Before the first transaction, you can check a company's financial condition and presence in public registers such as KRS or CEIDG. On the other two platforms, you do this yourself—if you do it at all.

Cost: publishing listings and browsing the exchange are free. The Premium Account with automatic alerts is paid.

Where Agriteo loses

  • You cannot sell machinery, animals or equipment. It is an agricultural produce exchange, not a general classifieds board.
  • Brand recognition is lower than OLX, so a neighbour from your municipality is less likely to visit. In wholesale trade, however, that neighbour is rarely your buyer.
  • If you sell 20 jars of honey, this is not the place for you.

Best for: collection points, processors, wholesalers and exporters looking for suppliers beyond their regular network, and farmers who have goods by the tonne and want calls from companies rather than private individuals.

“I used to sell to buyers I knew locally. Now companies from the other side of Poland contact me, and I have options to choose from.”— Marcin D., fruit grower and Agriteo user

If you have goods to sell now or gaps in your supply base, publish a listing or set filters on Agriteo. It takes only a few minutes on a phone.

2nd place: OLX, the most traffic and the most noise

OLX is Poland's largest classifieds website and has an extensive Agriculture section with an Agricultural Products subcategory. At the top of that category, the site displays more than 1,000 listings. They include grain such as wheat, triticale, barley and oats, beet pulp, hay, straw, vegetables, seeds and seedlings.

What works well

  • Enormous traffic. Many people will see your listing, including those who do not know any specialist exchange.
  • Fast publishing. Almost everyone has an OLX account and knows the form from selling items such as a bicycle.
  • A “Business / Private” filter that removes some irrelevant listings.
  • Genuine wholesale offers can be found, including beet pulp, grain priced per tonne and maize sold from several hectares.

What slows down access to a wholesale farmer

  • Wholesale is mixed with retail. A listing for 20 tonnes of wheat can sit beside strawberry seedlings priced per plant and seeds sold by the kilogram.
  • No volume filter. To learn whether a seller has two tonnes or 200, you must open the listing or call.
  • The other party is often a broker rather than a farmer. Traders list somebody else's goods and add a margin, which you may discover only during the conversation.
  • No industry verification. OLX will not check whether a company collecting a truckload of grain pays its bills.
  • With more listings and business accounts, paid packages and promotions become necessary; without promotion, an offer quickly falls down the results.

Best for: selling smaller lots locally, finding a buyer for remaining stock after the season, or trading goods absent from specialist exchanges, such as baled hay, straw or equipment. As a primary wholesale channel, it demands patience on the phone.

3rd place: Foodfarmer, good for direct sales but weak for wholesale

Foodfarmer is an app connecting consumers with local farmers and producers. Its figures are impressive: more than 10,000 sellers—some media reports say more than 12,000 farmers—over 180,000 active users, more than one million downloads and over 50,000 products.

What works well

  • A convenient mobile app with chat, phone contact and a map of nearby farms.
  • Orders delivered to a home or parcel locker.
  • Free for buyers; sellers pay for selected additional features under the Foodfarmer Premium price list.
  • A separate wholesale section in the farmer's profile.

What slows down access to a wholesale farmer

  • The model is designed for individuals. Most offers are eggs, honey, cheese, cured meats, juices, bread and household quantities of vegetables.
  • Wholesale is an addition to a profile rather than a separate exchange. You cannot filter hundreds of farmers by available tonnage.
  • Search is local and centred on your location. That limits exporters and processors seeking supplies from several regions.
  • There are no tools for verifying companies on the buying side because a consumer model does not require them.

Best for: farmers selling directly to consumers and building a farm brand, and restaurants or local shops looking for several nearby suppliers. For purchases by the tonne and regular truck deliveries, it is the slowest route of the three.

A practical test: 40 tonnes of carrots in one day

Let us return to the processing-plant buyer from the beginning. Call him Tomasz. He needs 40 tonnes of industrial carrots within 150 km, with collection the following week. This is what his Monday looks like on each platform.

On Foodfarmer, Tomasz sees farms nearby, but most sell carrots in bunches or 15 kg sacks. He messages several farmers with a wholesale section. Two reply in the afternoon; one has three tonnes. Nothing is secured by the end of the day.

On OLX, he searches for “wholesale carrots” and receives dozens of listings from across Poland, including old, inactive and broker offers. He must open every one because the title rarely states the volume. He calls eight numbers. Three do not answer, two are traders with a higher price, and one farmer has 15 tonnes. It is real progress, but it costs half a day on the phone.

On Agriteo, Tomasz enters the vegetable exchange and sets the product, minimum volume and radius. He sees only offers meeting the criteria and immediately knows how much each seller has and where. Before calling a new supplier, he checks their credibility. He saves the filter and enables alerts so the next matching offer reaches him automatically.

The conclusion is straightforward. User numbers do not determine speed in wholesale trade. What matters is whether the platform immediately removes offers that do not interest you.

How to trade safely on any agricultural marketplace

Regardless of the platform, the greatest risk in agricultural wholesale is not a bad price but non-payment. One unpaid truckload of grain or fruit can erase the profit from an entire season.

Follow these rules every time:

  1. Check the company before the first delivery. Verify its tax number, KRS or CEIDG entry and trading history. Agriteo's credibility report does this; on OLX and Foodfarmer, you must do it yourself.
  2. Put the terms in writing. Even a short email order stating volume, price, quality grade and payment deadline protects you in a dispute.
  3. Document loading. Photos of the goods and a quality report at collection prevent most retrospective complaints.
  4. Limit the first lot for a new buyer. It is better to sell five tonnes and see how they pay than to send 25 immediately.
  5. Beware of offers that look too good. A buyer offering above-market prices and pushing for fast dispatch without documents is a classic warning sign.

Frequently asked questions about agricultural marketplaces and wholesale trade

Where can I sell grain wholesale online fastest?

A specialist wholesale exchange such as Agriteo is the fastest option because the other side consists of grain elevators, grain companies and processors. OLX can also work, but expect calls from brokers and people looking for only a few sacks.

Can I sell a truckload of grain on OLX?

Yes, and many farmers do. The problem is that OLX has no volume filter or buyer verification. You must remove irrelevant enquiries yourself and check whether the company collecting the goods will actually pay.

Is Foodfarmer suitable for wholesale?

Only to a limited extent. Foodfarmer has a wholesale section in a farmer's profile, but the app as a whole is designed for individuals and local shopping. It works very well for direct sales and poorly for regular deliveries by the tonne.

How much does it cost to publish on an agricultural exchange?

Publishing a listing on Agriteo is free; only the Premium Account with alerts is paid. Basic OLX listings are free within a limit, after which packages and promotion cost money. Foodfarmer sellers pay for selected additional features.

How can I check whether an online buyer will pay?

Start with the company's tax number and its KRS or CEIDG registration, then check its financial condition. On Agriteo, you can use a credibility report before the first transaction. For a new buyer, it is also worth limiting the first delivery and putting the payment terms in writing.

Conclusion: which agricultural marketplace should you choose for wholesale?

If your goal is to reach a farmer selling wholesale—or a buyer purchasing by the tonne—as quickly as possible, the ranking is:

  1. Agriteo, because a marketplace built for wholesale removes small offers at the filtering stage, while its credibility report reduces non-payment risk.
  2. OLX, as a supplementary channel with enormous traffic when you have time to sort listings and make calls.
  3. Foodfarmer, when you sell directly to consumers and local customers rather than by the truckload.

Nothing prevents you from using several channels. A farmer can keep the main wholesale offer on a specialist exchange, list remaining seasonal stock on OLX, and sell eggs and honey through a consumer app.

What to do this week

  • If you sell, publish an offer with a specific volume, price and location. Listings with numbers attract more serious enquiries.
  • If you buy, set filters for product, volume and radius, save them and enable alerts.
  • Before the first delivery to a new counterparty, check their credibility.

Create a free Agriteo account and publish your first listing from your phone. It takes less time than a morning inspection of the farm, and there is no financial risk because the basic account is free.
